MIGRATION CONTROL PROCEDURE/VISA

Migration registration of foreigners:

Due to the fact that since January 2007 the registration of foreigners in the Russian Federation was abolished and Migration record of residence in the Russian Federation was forced into application, consequently, the process (procedure) of migration formalities was changed. Today a nonresident alien shall register within of 3 days after arriving in Russia. This procedure must be effected by host side party. For that end it is essential to fill in an Information Document (Notification)of a local agency of FMS (Federal Migration Service) about the coming of a foreign citizen.

Required documents for migration record:

-duplicate of passport

-duplicate of visa

-duplicate of migration card which is filled in by a foreign citizen arriving in Russia.

Procedure:

Host side party fills in a special form of notification (full title – Notification Form about Coming of a Foreign Citizen to the Place of Temporary Residence) which one can receive in any post office of the city free of charge, further produces it with duplicates of passport, visa and migration card to a local agency of FMS and sends it by post. The dispatch of Notification (and above mentioned copies) by mail is charged according to the rates fixed by the Government of Russia. Local agency of FMS of RF or post establishment is obliged to give a Detachable Part of Notification in exchange for entered papers, that is to say a Detachable Part of Notification is evidence to the fact that a foreign citizen is registered.
